Bumpdate: Weeks 22 and 23

Apologies for the super dark photo - the lighting in my house is atrocious. Perhaps not the worst thing in the world at this stage in the game.

Did you miss my Bumpdates at all? I didn't think so. But I sort of missed doing one last week! It's been a roller coaster past couple weeks, and I'm ready to get back on track with, well, life - tomorrow.

One of the highlights of the past two weeks was a fantastic monthly appointment a few days ago. During my last ultrasound, the tech had some difficulty getting one particular shot of the heart (mind you, this was one of about 80 shots she needed), and after over an hour of poking and prodding, Baby Girl refused to cooperate (I didn't blame her - the tech was annoying me, too) and it was decided that I would get another ultrasound during this month's appointment. So my appointment this past week started with another ultrasound, during which it was reconfirmed that Baby Girl is indeed a girl, and everything looked healthy. I also got to see her in 3D and 4D (3D in action, apparently), and I swear, I saw an eyelid open and close. Weirdest thing ever! It was crazy how much development has been made in the past month alone.

(And yes, I know - ultrasound photos - especially those in 3D - are totally Tales of the Crypt creepy. But look at that nose! And those little hands! And thank goodness I got to see the feet in a separate shot, otherwise I'd seriously be worried.)

Anyway, it should come as no surprise that as of this week, Baby Girl's tiny little face is almost fully formed. All that's left to come is for her to fatten up a bit. (And I do love me some fatty babies!) Apparently at this stage, babies are gaining about six ounces a week, which seems like quite a bit! As for this week's fruit comparison, Baby is as big as an ear of corn (about 8 1/2 inches) and should weight about 1 1/2 pounds.

Total weight gained: I think I'm up around 15 pounds. Aiee.

Belly: Remember how I got rid of the "belly button" category? Half of my belly button is almost popped out at this point! I certainly do not remember this happening so early on with Sammy. Nor did I ever think it could happen to my post-Sammy body. Anyway, my stomach is huge. And hard. And itchy. Also, Sammy took it upon himself this morning to drive his matchbox car over it. I'm not quite sure what to make of that.

Sleep: I am trying very hard to keep this blog free of obscenities, so I'll refrain from discussing this category this week.

Best moment of the week: My aforementioned doctor appointment, which couldn't have come at a better time.

Movement: Ah, how I missed those little kicks and jabs! I feel them every day and often now (she's kicking right now as I type!), and I love it. I also finally know what baby hiccups feel like, which I never really felt when pregnant with Sammy. Baby Girl particularly loves to jump around after my morning cup of coffee. (That makes one of us, at least!)

Food cravings / aversions: Thanks to some very thoughtful friends, family members and a husband, my candy stash is stocked for quite some time! And thus it's hard to know whether I'm still craving it, but of course. Otherwise, I haven't felt the need for anything specific lately.

Weird symptoms: According to my What to Expect app, it's common for me to get carpal tunnel-like symptoms now. With Sammy, I often felt that when shaving my legs, but that was about it. I haven't experienced that just yet with this pregnancy.

The one weird symptom I've had this past week that is apparently pregnancy-related is an itchy palm. Strange, right? Especially as it's only one hand that bothers me. Also, by the end of the day, my back is definitely craving some relaxation. I attribute that to toddler-related playtime though.

What I miss: Alcohol - the hard stuff. And sneezing without consequence.

What I'm looking forward to: Spring! Warm weather! Summer non-maternity clothes! Also, I'm getting excited to decorate Baby Girl's and Sammy's big boy rooms.

Workout: Much like sleep, this category is a joke right now. The profile photo I used this week was taken during one of ... hmm, two? workouts completed over the past couple weeks. But tomorrow (or maybe Tuesday?) begins a new week, and I'm ready to get back to a schedule.

  1. You think your stomach is huge, I think it's adorable. Especially as I sit looking at the jello-jiggler version that mine has become. Weird how I kinda miss being all "tight and firm" :)
