It's Beginning to Look (and Feel) A Lot Like Christmas

Contrary to the contents of my blog as of late, life hasn't been all baby, pregnancy, baby around the H household this past month. Though our efforts to embrace the holidays might not be quite up to last year's standards (we still haven't even gotten a Christmas card out yet!), we've managed to do a few holiday-related activities....

Earlier this month, James and Sammy participated in our town's annual Mitten Run - gasp, without me! For once though, I truly enjoyed being a race spectator and loved cheering these two on.

Later that day, Queenie and Grampy joined us as we took Sammy on his first ever train ride via the North Pole Express.

Though the ride was a bit long for a toddler, we loved seeing Sammy's reaction as he boarded the train, traveled through the lit-up scenery, and met Santa.

We've done a bit of decorating this year. Each morning Sammy enjoys sitting in our kitchen windowsill and playing with my battery-operated candles. (While I wait - breathlessly - for him to poke an eye out with the tip of the candle.)

I take much pride with being on Team Real Tree, so we were one of the very few people who didn't have our tree up the day after Thanksgiving. (I need to stay away from Instagram and blogs during the holidays.) However, this year, we did the unthinkable. We didn't cut down our own tree and instead - gasp, bought one from the lot at Lowe's! (I fully blame this on my pregnancy hormones, as I was not about to stand outside in the cold for any length of time.) Believe it or not, it's probably the nicest tree we've ever had.

I worried a lot about Sammy fiddling with the tree, so like most toddler parents, the bottom of our tree is quite sparse. However, I needn't have worried as 1) he could care less about the tree (minus the lights, which he does request we keep on throughout the day), and 2) he is much more interested in anything that jingles.

Sammy is still too young to enjoy any Christmas television specials, though much like his mom, he is already showing a love for Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, via the transportation of his Clarice doll, and our daily advent calendar.

Remember when I used to blog about all the food I was making? Cooking and baking have taken a bit of a backseat, between crazy toddler antics and pregnancy exhaustion, but I did manage to whip up a set of gingerbread cookies a couple weeks ago.

James helped out as well, taking over for me as Head Icer. Needless to say, neither of us will be entering any gingerbread icing contests in the near future.

Last week I even managed to put aside my distaste for all things craft-related, as Sammy assisted me in making salt dough ornaments. I think we both rather enjoyed this project!

It would not be the holidays in my family without a few festive tea times. This past week, we broke Sammy in and he thoroughly enjoyed his very first hot chocolate and snickerdoodle bars.

Yes, it's finally beginning to feel a bit like Christmas around here. I hope everyone enjoys these last few days leading up to the holidays!
